Core or Extended: which tier fits?

The school decides the tier at entry, based on the teacher's view of the likely grade. Core leads to grades C to G and Extended to A* to E, so a learner aiming for C or above usually sits Extended. When are IGCSE exams held in Qatar?

Schools in Qatar enter learners for the June or November series; the March series is only for schools in India. In the 2026 cycle the June exams ran from 23 April to 9 June, and the November exams run from late September to mid-November. Your school's exams officer confirms the exact timetable for its zone.

When is the best time to start tutoring?

Starting early in Year 10 gives the most room, because each topic can be secured before the next one builds on it. Others start after the Year 10 mocks, or in the months before the final series, when the focus moves to past papers and exam technique. The first lessons map what the learner already knows, so time goes where it is needed.

Can IGCSE be taken outside school?

Yes. Cambridge accepts private candidates for many syllabuses, including Mathematics, and they enter through a Cambridge exam centre that takes private candidates. A qualification can also be retaken. A tutor can plan the course around the series you choose, and the centre handles the entry itself.

Are the lessons online only?

How it is structured

Two years of teaching, written papers at the end

Each IGCSE subject has its own syllabus and code, published by Cambridge International Education. Teaching runs across Year 10 and Year 11, and assessment comes at the end through written papers set and marked by Cambridge. Many subjects are tiered: Core leads to grades C to G, and Extended opens A* to E. Sciences also assess practical skills, and English may include coursework or speaking, depending on the syllabus your school chose.

Age and years: Usually 14 to 16, across Year 10 and Year 11. A Qatari Grade 9 sits beside British Year 10.
Exam series: June and November for schools in Qatar. The March series is open only to schools in India.
Tiers: Core for grades C to G; Extended for grades A* to E, aimed at A* to C. The school enters each learner for one tier.
Grades: A* to G. Some subjects are also offered graded 9 to 1 under a separate code, such as Mathematics 0980.
Recognition: UK ENIC benchmarked Cambridge IGCSE as comparable to the UK GCSE, and good grades lead on to AS and A Level.
The 2026 cycle: June exams ran from 23 April to 9 June, with IGCSE results on 18 August. November exams run from late September to mid-November, with results on 14 January 2027.
