Can a tutor help with the Internal Assessment?

Yes, within the IB's academic honesty rules. A tutor can help a learner choose a workable question, understand the method, plan the structure and act on feedback. The writing and the work stay the learner's own, as the IB requires, and the teacher remains the person who supervises and marks it.

Analysis and Approaches, or Applications and Interpretation?

It depends on what the learner enjoys and plans to study. Analysis and Approaches leans towards algebra, proof and calculus, and suits learners heading for mathematics, engineering or physics. Applications and Interpretation leans towards modelling, statistics and technology. Both run at SL and HL, and universities publish their own course requirements, so check them early.

How is the IB Diploma scored?

Each of six subjects is graded 1 to 7, and Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together add up to 3 points, for a maximum of 45. CAS earns no points and is required for the diploma. Knowing where the marks come from helps a tutor plan where time will make the most difference.

Do you support MYP learners?

Yes. MYP support focuses on mathematics, the sciences and English across MYP 1 to 5, working with the criteria the learner's teachers use. Starting in MYP 4 or MYP 5 gives time to firm up the foundations before the Diploma begins.

When do IB lessons take place?

Lessons are live and online, one tutor with one learner, at times set in Qatar time around the Sunday to Thursday week. The learner studies from home, and sessions can shift towards IA deadlines in the autumn and the May exams in spring.

How it is structured

How the MYP and the Diploma are built

The MYP runs for five years, MYP 1 to 5, across eight subject groups, with teachers assessing work against published criteria. The Diploma Programme lasts two years: six subjects, normally three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, each graded 1 to 7. Every subject includes an Internal Assessment marked by the teacher and moderated by the IB, alongside written exams at the end.

Diploma score: Up to 45 points: 7 in each of six subjects, plus up to 3 from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay.
The core: Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. CAS earns no points and is required for the diploma.
Exams: Held in May; a November session serves schools on a different calendar.
Mathematics: Two courses, Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, each at SL and HL.
MYP assessment: Criteria A to D, each marked 0 to 8, with optional eAssessment in MYP 5.
